The firm was founded in 1959 and has engaged in the practice of law in Knoxville for over 40 years. The firm’s focus over the years has been to provide the highest level of legal representation and service to its clients on an efficient and cost effective basis.

The practice has evolved from the general practice of law to a focus on civil litigation and business transactions. This focus has enabled the firm to remain consistently at the level of eight to ten lawyers - small enough to provide personalized service to clients but large enough to provide the skills needed in a competitive business environment.

The firm’s business practice has expanded over the years, as its clients have grown and new clients have been added. The practice includes business entities, business transactions including contract negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, employment matters, real estate transactions and construction matters. The litigation practice has grown in the same areas to meet the needs of the clients and includes representation of clients in all state and federal courts and in arbitration and mediation.

The firm serves as counsel to several local businesses which have grown into regional and national concerns, some of which are now publicly traded. The firm has assisted numerous companies in business acquisitions, asset sales and purchases, mergers and other transactions.

Members of the firm serve on various corporate and non-profit boards, and the firm provides pro bono services to several local non-profit organizations.
