Biography

Charles graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science, followed by his law degree in 1973 from the University of Tennessee College of Law.  In September 1973, he was admitted to the practice of law in Tennessee, at which time he joined the law firm of Child, O’Connor, and Petty.  Charles’s practice consists of divorce and family law, probate and estate planning, and general civil litigation.  He is also a Rule 31 Family Law Mediator.

Charles is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association and Tennessee Bar Association.  He has served as a former member of the Board of Directors for the Baptist Hospital, has served as an elder for many years at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church, and has served in various leadership roles for the Presbytery of East Tennessee.

Married in 1970 to Cheryl Arnhard Child, Charles is also the proud father of Julie Child Claxton and Brian M. Child, as well as the proud grandfather of four granddaughters.  In his free time, Charles enjoys time with his family and friends, his annual family vacation to Hilton Head, and traveling with his wife.
